The things that bring back childhood memories...

Two weeks ago (yeah I know I'm slack in posting) Brian and I were going stir crazy in the house with the kids so we decided to go for a drive to Mt Macedon.

When we got there we did a bit of a debate about walking up to the memorial cross as it was late in the afternoon and only six degrees, but we figured after driving here we may as well.

As we got to the end of the walking trail, Brian and boys ran ahead up to the cross and I stood on top of the little hill looking down at this..

(Yes that is Brian and boys standing under it, but it's really too dark to see)

Surprisingly it really stirred up some feelings - I think maybe because it was only just after ANZAC day and I'd been thinking a fair bit about my grandfather serving in the war.

When I reached the bottom and walked around the cross I began to feel really quite emotional as on the back of the cross I found this lone bunch of flowers:

I didn't actually cry looking at them, but I really felt like I needed to and I'm not entirely sure why. Yes, I know I've just had a baby and are quite hormonal - but the feelings were very strong.

Anwyay, I was quickly brought back to reality by the kids insisting that I take photos of them:

Then there was the view from there:

And lastly the pic that really brought back the childhood memories:

Yes I know it's just the sun through the trees in the bush, but when I looked at it I saw it through a little girls eyes. That same little girl who used to spend school holidays at her Grandparents house in Macedon. That same little tomboy who would almost squeal with delight at the prospect at walking into town with her Poppy - walking through the bush path, listening to all the birds and looking around at the sun streaming through the trees. I'd honestly forgotten about those walks my Poppy and I used to take. I really hope in my heart that he remembers too.

EDITED TO ADD: I don't know what is up with the photos. They are as clear as day in photobucket, but for some stupid reason have come out all pixilated here.

  1. Wow... I had to show my partner your photos. His grandmother's ashes were scattered there. It truly is a beautiful place.
