Aussie Curves : Worthy Work

Of all weeks to do a work challenge, this was an unusual one for me.
Most days are the same day in, day out so my work attire doesn't really change too much. Our dress code is black and white (and a color of the season that each individual store chooses) and business casual. So tailored pants and a nice top and cardi are usually the go.

But this week was out of the ordinary. Firstly we had stocktake which is about a 14 hour day and it's casual clothes. Comfortable clothes. So jeans, hoodie, t-shirt and cons was the go. So casual, that I forgot to take a pic in fact. Oops. Then we had a managers meeting. And not just your run of the mill meeting, this one was a special by invite only Rainbow Theme, think like a kid fancy dress meeting. Yeah, so not in my comfort zone but what the hell, if there is anything I've learnt from Aussie Curves, it's embrace something different. So embrace I did.

Oh and a PS, if you are worried that I'm looking rather serious and almost makeupless for the start of a workday it's because they're taken at the end of each day by a five year old...who was not so happy about being the photographer.

So here's to the working week:

Aussie Curves : Headlining Heels

So after bowing out of last weeks pj challenge (seriously no one needs to see me in daggy pants, ski socks and men's Bonds chesty tees), I again had a little laugh to myself over heels.

Now if I go back in time about 20 years I lived in heels. I mean lived. I worked shifts 10ish hours long racing around fast food joints in skyscrapers. How, I have no idea, but I did. And damn I had killer calves back then. Even with the weight gain over the years, I've still got pretty good calves and I still attribute them to the old heel days. But becoming a Mum changed it all.

Out went the heels and the little skirts and in came comfy flats, bootleg jeans and wash and wear tees. Finally heels have started making an appearance in my wardrobe again but I'd only taken small steps by lashing out with wedges. I love my wedges. The photos really don't do them justice at all.
Sunnies : Target
Scarf : K Mart
Cardigan : MODA by Target
Singlet top : K Mart
Jeans : City Chic
Heels : Target
So there you have my heels, but then something freakin awesome happened today.

I found these babies at Target for a whole $9.83. $9.83!!!! What a friggin bargain.
Now only one question remains, can I walk in them?

Aussie Curves : Mesmerising Maxis

Ahh the Maxi dress. How I love thee, let me count the ways:
  1. Most of you have an empire line cut which accents the good and hides the bumpy
  2. I don't have to have that "Groan, do I REALLY need to shave my legs" discussion with myself whilst in the shower if I'm going to wear one
  3. The material is usually light and breezy, just perfect for summer
I could do on, but I don't want to bore anyone to death. Let's just say I heart a good maxi.

And now, since we're finally blown over into Autumn weather here in good ol' Melbourne, I got smart and grabbed out the camera (well in actuality I got Miss 4 to get snap happy) when we had a last run of stinking hot days. So I bring you the last rays of Melb summer with the Maxi.

Voguing it for the camera. Miss 4 even suggests poses now. LOL
If you look really closely you can see Miss 4's outstretched little arm in my sunnies Nawww
All decked out on Target today
Sunnies : Target
Necklace : From another Moda by Target top
Maxi Dress : Moda by Target
Shoes : Target
Bangles : Surprise, surprise...Diva :)

And the princess herself, who had to be in at least one shot.

Aussie Curves - Mighty Military

I'm sure people have noticed that I have a bit of a penchant for posting song lyrics, so while researching for the Military theme I came across I song that I've always loved even though it's old and just a tad twee. Then because random thoughts link to another I ended up reliving the nineties watching the Doug Anthony Allstars performing this song. So as wrong and politically incorrect it is, it was the 90's and I used to watch these guys religiously on The Big Gig then their own show DAAS Kapital.
So I'm sharing.

So anyway, back to the topic at hand. I was just a tad stumped by the Military theme until I did a quick run to a local Op-Shop and picked up this awesome jacket. I REALLY like and will definitely wear it again. So once I had the jacket, the whole thing fell into place...even the sunnies have a camo print on the arms.

Dog Tag Necklace : Factorie
Singlet Top : MODA for Target

Aussie Curves - Akward Animalistic

So I got this new dress a few weeks ago that was on a clearance rack. There was one of the size I usually buy and a few other various sizes but none either side of mine. Therefore I convinced myself that there was no need to try it on since there was no alternative if it didn't fit. Besides, I NEEDED the dress for Animalistic week on the Aussie Curves challenge.

Turns out it was too big. Never one to be deterred, a ton of pins later and ta-da, we have Animalistic. Now this week is definitely not my best angle, view whatever you call it by a long shot. To be honest I was feeling really uncomforable about this shoot for a stupid reason. So far every week, I've either had to master the selfie or get the kids to take the photos for me. This week I had to enlist the husband....and it was awkward. And I was embarrassed.

For the people who don't know my husband, he's a smartarse. Not one of those asshole type smartarses that everyone hates, but I guess it's more that our normal relationship is based on a lot of laughs and ribbing. So I just couldn't do the photo shoot. I knew he wouldn't be able to help himself. And I knew I would be crushed even if he was just joking. With the kids it's easy, I can be silly, I can "strike a pose", hell Miss 4 even requests what poses I do, but with him it was just, well...awkward. So I bring you the awkward pics.

I bought white pants and other shocking stories

So Target had a sale today - 40% off MODA city dressing skirts, cropped and full length pants and an extra 20% off women's clearance items. Bargain yeah? I will admit to being one of those crazies who go through the clearance rack with a fine tooth comb and it's always well worth it. So the bargains I grabbed were a pair of white cropped pants (yeah, they're not in the picture cause they just don't look pretty), the two dresses below and the top. How's this though the animal print dress was $49 - I paid $19.90, the flare wrap dress was $49 - I paid $15.90 and the top original price $35 - I paid $15.90. The accessories, unfortunately, are all on my want list.

So if you're cynical like me, you'll be thinking white pants? WTF is she thinking? Well this is my first pair and even I'm asking myself WTF but I've convinced myself that if they are not all they're cracked up to be then screw it, they're good for Bali thrown on with a kaftan attire. And before you start laughing at "kaftan", Mrs Woog wears them so they're good enough for me.

Aussie Curves - Perfect Purple

Well I'm just going to put it out there and say that I'm another who doesn't really wear purple. I was actually thinking that I was either going to have to
  1. Bust out some purple accessories as an easy way out, or
  2. Pour myself into a gorgeous purple bridesmaid dress that I'm sure I'd need a shoehorn to get my rack into
when Mr 9 walked straight into my cupboard and pulled out a purple dress/tunic and asked "What about this?" How this kid knows my wardrobe better than me beats the heck out of me. So the tunic it was.

Being that it was a rush job to get any pics done, here's me a-la natural (and I mean sans makeup, not naked before you're too scared to scroll down) having a casual family day on the way to the local Australia Day fair.
 Sunglasses: Some generic brand
(since I recently broke my prescription ones *sob)
Scarf: Valleygirl
Cardigan: Katies
Tunic: Moda - Target
Leggings: K Mart
Shoes: Ruby Shoes

Sorry about the dodgy pic, but sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.
Keen to check out the rest of the Purple Posse, then read on below.
