Aussie Curves - Akward Animalistic

So I got this new dress a few weeks ago that was on a clearance rack. There was one of the size I usually buy and a few other various sizes but none either side of mine. Therefore I convinced myself that there was no need to try it on since there was no alternative if it didn't fit. Besides, I NEEDED the dress for Animalistic week on the Aussie Curves challenge.

Turns out it was too big. Never one to be deterred, a ton of pins later and ta-da, we have Animalistic. Now this week is definitely not my best angle, view whatever you call it by a long shot. To be honest I was feeling really uncomforable about this shoot for a stupid reason. So far every week, I've either had to master the selfie or get the kids to take the photos for me. This week I had to enlist the husband....and it was awkward. And I was embarrassed.

For the people who don't know my husband, he's a smartarse. Not one of those asshole type smartarses that everyone hates, but I guess it's more that our normal relationship is based on a lot of laughs and ribbing. So I just couldn't do the photo shoot. I knew he wouldn't be able to help himself. And I knew I would be crushed even if he was just joking. With the kids it's easy, I can be silly, I can "strike a pose", hell Miss 4 even requests what poses I do, but with him it was just, well...awkward. So I bring you the awkward pics.

Are you batting above your average?

Pic courtesy of IMDb
I'll be the first to admit that I've never watched a single episode or Girls, nor have I even seen a snippet of it on You Tube but I have been reading with interest the hoopla that seems to follow Lena Dunham around (Yes, yes, I know this is old news but screw it, I'm writing about it anyway).

After seeing her name splashed everywhere because of her penchant for nudity when she doesn't have the traditional Hollywood size zero figure, the latest is how could someone like her character from Girls, Hannah, score such a good looking, rich guy. Like, come on peoples, why would he want to sleep with HER? Some of the vitriol I've seen has been mind boggling.

Crap such as this:

Dear Lena Dunham: NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOU NAKED. WE GET IT ALREADY.- Shirtless Dudly on AVClub.

My issue with her body is that it is obvious she doesn't make an effort to get some damn exercise. I hate when people take their bodies for granted like that. I've had to have surgeries and a knee replacement by the age of 30, but I still manage to get exercise. I just really want her to do a damn push up, is that too much to ask? - Scruffy Love on AVClub

I know there are millions of shows of slob dating/married to hot women, but I couldn't believe this Patrick character was interested in Hannah. - Stan on HITfx

Seems like my women friends don't link the show because they can't reconcile a confident, naked female body that is not 'hot' in the least - yet she's having a lot of randy sex. Women are more turned off by lumpy lady parts than any guy ever is- LA on HitFX

I could go on and on  but it's all pretty much repeats of the same thing.

The timing of this latest Dunham "controversy" couldn't have been better since a post of mine the other day lamenting all of my insecurities came from pretty much precisely this. What's a guy like him, doing with a girl like her? Gee he's batting below his average. She's punching above her weight. You get the picture.

Now my husband is no Hugh Jackman, Brad Pitt or whichever Hollywood leading man takes your fancy but I find him attractive. Hell, I might even think about pushing that as far as saying I think he's hot (but I won't because if he reads this I'll never head the end of just how hot he is). I consider myself an average, 30 something (snort), a little on the frumpy side, a lot on the curvy side, typical suburban Mum. I know I'm insecure but I'm not stupid. I've had other people give me the "I'm surprised and doing a bad job of covering it" look when I'm meeting people who know my husband for the first time. You know that "OMG, you're his wife" look that makes you simultaneously want to crawl into the hole they're making out you've come from and punch them in the face at the same time.

But really we're all guilty of it on a certain level. I mean come on, who didn't watch Knocked Up and think "What the hell is she thinking?" (even though I will admit to rooting for the underdog by the end of the pic).  Feels a bit different when the shoe is on the other foot eh? So I'm not as shallow as the hounds that seem to be baying for Lena Dunham, but there is still a piece of me whose mindset still needs to change.

So my huband went to India

Well in a subject matter jump, since I'm either banging on about myself or fatshion, here's a good ol' what the Brodricks have been up to post. For anyone who doesn't know, Brian was invited to a wedding for two of his colleagues...in India.

We knew that it would be all kinds of logistical hell for both of us to get there sans kids and his reasoning was "Well you're going on a girl's trip to Bali" so he went solo. And had a ball. Here's a couple of pics to prove it:

As you can see, while away he's become a fan of the selfie. LOL

Polly Dolly Week 3 - Girls' night out

So this weeks theme is Girls' night out. I was playing around ideas in my head and on Polyvore, but kept getting the song Ladies Night stuck in my head. You know, in The Wedding Singer style. Love this movie, one of the best movies ever.
So here I was trying to put together something new, on trend and awesome,
but I just couldn't. I couldn't get past the 80's. So this week I bring you
Girls' Night Out, 80's style.

Still got a long way to go

I've been following Aussie Curves for quite a while now and have been participating for a few weeks as well. Honestly coming across Aussie Curves and all the fabulous posters was an eye opener for me. It really changed my outlook and gave me a confidence I had never had before. Yes, I've always been outgoing, but a lot of times at my own expense. You know the old make a fat joke about yourself before anyone else does that way everyone is laughing with you, not at you. But I really thought I'd come a long way...until today.

How easily something so small and seemingly innocent can rock your world and bring up all your self doubt. How easily a bunch of little things fall into place and completely screw with your head. How easily new found confidence gets shattered.

I need to regroup. I need to get my head back in the right place. I need to get rid of things that bring me down. I owe this to me. I deserve this. I'm better than this. Bring on a good night's sleep and a clear mind.

Aussie Curves - Natural Nature

Racing in again at the last minute to fulfill this weeks Nature Challenge. I will admit that Nature had me stumped. What was I going to do for Nature? My husband kindly suggested ah-la-natural . Yes, he's a funny man.

I put it to the other Aussie Curves chicks and as per usual was given some great advice, floral, earthy colors, animal print - really nature was very open to interpretation but I needed to open my mind. There is a gorgeous old building on the edge of some fields that I've taken pics of before that I thought I could take some shots there but my only photographer that I had around on a day I could do it was Miss 4. And Miss 4 didn't want to take pics. Anyone who has or who has had a 4 year old would understand why I didn't push the issue. So instead I took the kids to the park after school and convinced Mr 8 to get snap happy. Unfortuately the call of his scooter was too great so one pic was all I got.

So I bring you this week:
SUNGLASSES : TARGET
DRESS : CITY CHIC
BRACELET : DIVA

Polly Dolly Week 2 - Valentines

Valentines Day - What a great excuse to whip out the imaginary credit card and do some loved up shopping. I love Valentines day. Unfortunately I married one of the most unromantic men on earth so I need to make so with wistfulness. If my credit card was real and my waistline was a lot smaller, I'd be hitting up Alannah Hill for some gorgeous outfits. Here's one of my dream team Valentines looks. Enjoy ♥
